A huge and greedy corporation engineers a new living creature created from a pig mutation in order to produce a high-quality pork substitute. The corporation that created these creatures wants to test the best growth conditions for this new animal and announces a competition (lasting 10 years) among farmers in countries where the corporation has branches, placing one of the offspring created from the original pig in each farm. One of the pigs sent to South Korea is Okja, where she grows for 10 years in the mountains of South Korea alongside a girl named Mija, the granddaughter of the farmer who raised her. A touching and charming friendship develops between Mija and Okja. At the end of the 10-year competition, the corporation plans to transfer her from South Korea to New York, and the girl sets out on a journey to save her companion. The film was first released on Netflix in June 2017 and was a milestone in changing the power dynamics of the film industry led by Netflix, regarding the way films are distributed today, because Netflix chose not to release it commercially in cinemas but to stream it directly on their platform.
Hacksaw Ridge
